Gardner, Alexander
(17 oct. 1821, Paisley, Escocia–1882, Washington, D.C., EE.UU.).

Fotógrafo estadounidense nacido en Escocia. En 1856, el año en que emigró de Escocia, fue contratado por Mathew B. Brady como fotógrafo retratista, y al cabo de dos años abrió un estudio para Brady en Washington, D.C. En 1861 comenzó a ayudar a Brady en la realización de un registro fotográfico de la guerra de Secesión. Brady se negó a darle reconocimiento público, de modo que en 1863 abrió su propio estudio de retratos, y siguió fotografiando la guerra por su cuenta. Publicó una colección de 100 fotografías originales en 1886. A partir de 1867, como fotógrafo del Unión Pacific Railroad de Kansas, documentó la construcción del ferrocarril y las nuevas instalaciones construidas a su alrededor.
